Twitter Fingers Could Get You Community Service! ( In The UK)

The worst thing about Twitter is that people enjoy almost total anonymity . . . so they can't be held accountable for the stupid stuff they Tweet. But what if that WASN'T the case?

There's a law on the books in the U.K. that prohibits people from spreading content that’s deemed "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character," through a "public electronic communications network."

It's controversial because it's written in a broad way, and isn't always consistently enforced . . . but it's a law, and one guy is learning that the hard way.

Back in February, an elderly British Army officer died . . . and a 36-year-old man named Joseph Kelly Tweeted out, quote, "The only good Brit soldier is a deed one, burn auld fella buuuuurn."  (Joseph is Scottish.) Obviously, that's nasty, and in poor taste. And not only that, but it's also ILLEGAL according to the courts. Joseph was sentenced to 150 hours of community service and 18 hours of counseling.

His attorney says Joseph was drunk when he Tweeted that, and he only had a "handful" of followers . . . but apparently the courts wanted to make an example out of him anyway.

Here's a playlist that will calm you down before you tweet something you'll regret. LOL
