Celine Dion Speaks Out At Concert One Day After Her Motherโ€™s Death

Celine Dion paid tribute to her late mother, Thรฉrรจse Tanguay Dion, during her concert in Miami, Florida on Friday (January 17)

The 51-year-old singer took some time during her show to share some memories of her mom, telling the audience, according to footage from the concert obtained by TMZ, โ€œIโ€™m pretty sure that you heard the news about my mom passing away early this morning. My mom was 92. She was ill for quite a while. And we knew she wouldnโ€™t be with us long."

โ€œTwo days ago, we got a call from the nurses who were taking care of her so well, saying that her time was coming soon. Very soon. So last night, I joined my brothers and sisters in Montreal and I spent the evening at her bedside," she continued. โ€œWe told stories. We sang songs. We hugged each other. And we said our goodbyes."

โ€œWe are pretty sure that mom waited for us to be all together before [she passed]," Celine shared.

Ahead of her Miami show, the "My Heart Will Go On" singer shared a beautiful tribute to her mother on social media, captioning a black-and-white family photo, "Maman, we love you so muchโ€ฆ We dedicate tonightโ€™s show to you and Iโ€™ll sing to you with all my heart. Love, Cรฉline."

The mother of the international superstar, who was affectionately given the nickname "Maman Dion" by Canadians, died Thursday night (January 16) surrounded by her family and friends, TMZ reported on Friday. The Dion matriarch's eldest child, Claudette Dion, revealed last year that her mother had been dealing with significant health problems, including memory loss and vision and hearing impairment.

Thรฉrรจse's death came just two days after the fourth anniversary of the passing of Celine's husband, Renรฉ Angรฉlil. Sadly, Thursday, also marked the 4th anniversary of the passing of Celine's brother, Daniel, TMZ noted.

Thรฉrรจse was the mother of 14 children. She was also a television host, philanthropist, and songwriter. She famously wrote Celine's first hit, โ€œCe nโ€™รฉtait quโ€™un rรชve.โ€ The 92-year-old additionally founded the Maman Dion Foundation in 2006 to aid disadvantaged children.
