Dua Lipa Drops Sassy, Retro 'Future Nostalgia' Title Track: Listen

Dua Lipa is taking it back to the future with her latest single.

On Friday (December 13), the English songbird celebrated the release of her newest record, "Future Nostalgia," a track as ageless as it is ahead of its time. As Lipa boasts in the empowering feminist anthem, the future is female. "I know you're dying trying to figure me out/ My name's on the tip of your tongue, keep running your mouth/ You want the recipe, but can't handle my sound," Lipa brags in the chorus over a fun, futuristic beat.

The London-born songbird's latest and titular record appears on her upcoming sophomore album, Future Nostalgia, set to release in 2020. "Future Nostalgia" comes one month after the release of her comeback single, "Don't Start Now."

Speaking with Metro, the 24-year-old cited such artists like Gwen Stefani, Madonna, OutKast, Blondie and others as sources of inspiration for her second project.

"What I wanted to do with this album was to break out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to make music that felt like it could sit alongside some of my favourite classic pop songs, whilst still feeling fresh and uniquely mine," the disco pop star explained. "My sound has naturally matured a bit as I’ve grown up but I wanted to keep the same pop sensibility as I had on the first record. ... I realised that what I wanted to make was something that felt nostalgic but had something fresh and futuristic about it too."

Lipa will support her upcoming album with a 2020 European tour in late April — get ticket info here.
