Australia is passing a landmark ban on social media for children under 16. On Thursday, the country's senate voted 34 to 19 to pass the ban, which will take at least a year to go into effect. The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the legislation by 102 votes to 13 last Wednesday. The ban could see companies fined up to 50-million Australian dollars if they fail to prevent children from having accounts. It's the latest effort from politicians worldwide to regulate children's social media use as concerns about its negative impact on mental health continue to grow.
